Becoming Like Jesus
Jesus cleared up a big barrier people has put up in attaining unto holiness. Many has made up their minds to live as life brings it to them instead of living like Jesus. Jesus is the expressed image of the person of God. He has given us examples that we should follow Him.
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Hebrews 1:3
When Jesus wanted to end the beatitudes, He brought to us the reality of His expectations from us and nothing less.
You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:48
Our perfections should be as that of God. This is the goal of discipleship, this is the race we are running as Christians. God is not expecting any less than perfect. “As your father”, Jesus is not expecting what we cannot do from us had it been like that He would been a hard man. Let us lift up ourselves in the saying of Jesus concerning us.
Jesus furthered to say that
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.
Luke 6:40
We are in training to like Jesus
Jesus is our teacher through the Holy Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit is the agent through which Jesus get His trainings across to us. We are His, we cannot be above Him. It is only in the secular world a student can be more excellent than his teachers but in Christendom the best we can be is to be like Jesus. This coming from Jesus gives us the assurance that it is attainable no need to worry. Being fully trained takes the route of purging, until we are used to the kingdom lifestyle, get the teachings of Jesus into our lives only then can we get the approval of our teacher when all we do is patterned after His lifestyle.
We should not allow anyone to deceive us, God requires total obedience from us and we can do it through His spirit in us. If we really belong to Jesus indeed, we have to make becoming like Him a pursuit and daily desire. He is more willing to make us than we are willing to be made, God’s expectations must not be cut off. He gave us His life to qualify us for this kind of level, if a moralist is doing better than us morally it is because our light is not shining. It is they who are to see our lights and stand in awe and not otherwise.
Holiness is a must, Christ kind of life is attainable.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
2 Peter 1:3
Our Responsibility
If we pattern the way we see ourselves to the way He sees us. We will have little struggle of excusing failures. Our best life is becoming like Jesus. If we are living lesser than that we should get ourselves back to the quarry site and endure the training. That our showing forth might bring glory to our father who is in heaven. Let us make God proud and be able use us a quiver for winning the word. We don’t become like Jesus in a day, month or year. It is a continuous process, we progress into becoming like Him. Until we attain that, giving up because of the hurdles along the way is a sin. For to be fit to becoming like Him we must not look back, trusting in Jesus.
