El-Roi: God Who Sees Me
God who watches us
El-Roi, the God who sees you, to open your eyes to His work and to increase your faith even and especially when His promises seem impossible to fulfil. She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
Genesis 16:13–14
As a woman, we wish noticed by our partner during the times of grief, joy and in trouble. But many times, our expectation fails as human fail to see our pains in our life. Whereas God the El-Roi is never who overturns His eyes on us when we cry to Him.
Whenever we go through a rough phase of your life, when no one cares for you, we might think that God is deaf to our prayers or blind to see our pain in our life. Hagar story is one of the beautiful stories which show the character of God, how He sees and cares for people in distress.
Hagar went through a hard time where she was mistreated by her mistress Sarah. She’d not wanted to do what was asked of her, but as a slave with no rights or opinions, she’d had no choice.
Out of desperation, she finally fled because she couldn’t take the abuse and the pain anymore; but she quickly found herself alone and defenceless, without shelter or sustenance. And pregnant, no less.
God Hears Our Cry
To say she felt scared, lonely, and unloved is an understatement. She wondered, in her despair, if anyone cared about her or what was happening to her or her unborn baby. God listened to her and answered to her prayer. We can relate our story to the emotional pain Hagar went through in our life.
You could be neglected, might gone through the pain of abuse, your manager might have mistreated you, you could be made ashamed among others. The first question which comes out of our heart where was God in all these? Do He really care about me in the billions of population. Does He knows whether I exist in this world?
He is El-Roi “He see you” He even counted your hairs in your head. Even the minute details of yours is known by God. You are never left alone in your distress. You are cared by the God Almighty. When everyone fails you, He won’t fail you.
God knows your name. Sarah was mostly referred as “my slave” or “your slave”. This shows that she had no value in their eyes. But God never sees like that, when God found Hagar at the well, the first word out of His mouth was, “Hagar” (16:8). When no one else cared enough to show Hagar any decency, God did.
Trust God in all your situations. There is no situation God couldn’t heal in your life. Seek his presence and handover all your situations into his hands. Amen
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for watching over me in times of my distress and helping me to get rid of the situation. Open the eyes of my heart Lord so that I can see you.
Reflection.
Do we see God in our hard times?
Are we allowing God to move in our life?
