God is!
God is who we know him to be to us, so our perspective concerning God determines our experience. We cannot go ahead having a negative mind concerning God and be expectant of His goodness. In today’s article we will consider our affirmation concerning God and how it affects our experiences.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
Psalm 46:1-2
There are difficulties in the world needing solutions, finding answers to our challenges is one of the things we wake up to do everyday. David in Psalm 46, positively acknowledged God and in his positivity, he expected Him to help him.
Who is God?
- REFUGE
In a world filled with darts, just as David experienced. He remembered God as a refuge and he received comfort that there’s help for him in the Lord. This enabled him to face the challenge having victory in mind. The enemies are in the dark looking for where to shoot at the children of God, He is expecting His children to turn to Him and see Him for whom He really is.
Consider this “though the earth gives way”, when earth gives way in our context, it means danger and we need refuge.
- STRENGTH
You are burdened with the hope of how the future would be? Has this drained all the strength you think you have? C’mon! You have to take courage and reorientate yourself that is, see Him as your strength. Can that strength fail? Absolutely No! Therefore, have no reason to give up.
- PRESENT HELP
He is always on time to help! You can count on Him. Although it seems the enemy is winning and all hope seems lost, God is coming for you and when you shall see Him, you would acknowledge He has come on time. His ways are higher than yours! Don’t try to help him in that situation, He will help you.
You know, if one doesn’t see aright, he would transfer the honor to the wrong side and you know God is jealous for His glory. Wait for His help.
The Result
Verse 2 started with a “therefore” which means based on what we have seen Him to be, here is our reaction. Our reaction to situations of life is proportional to our knowledge of God(not just mere head knowledge). Not only that, it is also subject to our true knowledge of Him.
Everyone has different believe about God, some belief He is both good and bad, that he can just look at the children of men at anytime and afflict them with evil. But we have not so learned of Him from the scriptures.
The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.
Psalm 145:9
The result of our right believe concerning God is that we stand in the face of the challenges of life. David said ”though the mountains be moved…” this is one of the hardest things to do and even when done required greater energy. What we can see here is that irrespective of your circumstances never loose sight of the truth concerning our God. Mountains here didn’t mean challenges, rather something of great treasure. If it were challenges he would have been happy but rather something of value has been disposed to another habitation which is not desirable.
But seeing Him as refuge, strength and help give courage to face the darkness with the hope of great light coming through.
