In times of Darkness

God at times of Darkness

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.”

Psalm 23:1-2

Devotion:

Life can be full of pain, darkness with unexpected twist and turns, which makes hard for you to rely upon God in this world.

There could be times where you could have loads of questions going through your mind which may get unanswered.

Have you ever felt like that? Why is it for me alone? Should I go through this path? Have you lost all the hope and fear about your future?

Trusting God in Times of Darkness

One mantra you need to hold on to it very firmly is never lose your faith. Because it is what going to make you cross all your hurdles and tough times you have been facing now.

Never think God is far away for your prayers. Prophet Habakkuk cries to the Lord “How long, oh LORD, will I call for help?” (Habakkuk 1:2). He cries to the Lord that Lord is taking a long time to respond to the questions he had in his mind.

Sometimes we expect God to respond so quickly to get away with the situation we are going through, and Habakkuk was too in the same situation.

But God responds in a different way to his question: “Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days–you would not believe if you were told” (v. 5).

Habakkuk could not understand what God was doing, but God was doing something great for him. All you need to do is to have a strong faith in God in times of darkness.

Faith Destroys Fear

In Psalm 22, David caries to the God “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?”

David is going through a rough patch where he is all alone in the Judean desert because Saul was about to kill him.

David had no hopes both spiritually and physically. He was almost on the verge of his death.

Somewhere David had the faith, and he was sure that the God I trusted would lead me even in this Judean desert. That faith in the darkness let him reach the Engedi Oasis.

David knows for sure that it was only God who has taken him to reach this oasis. God has an Engedi in your life so trust Him blindly.

David knows that the faith, which he had alone brought him there, and that was the reason he wrote Psalm 23.

When you have faith in the times of darkness, God is there to lead you as a Shepherd. Don’t lose your hope, put your trust in God and wait for your time which God has set for you. And He will bless you in His own time.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for all the blessings in our life. At the times of darkness or sickness, we are losing our hope and attachment over you. Give us the grace and strength to endure through the situations and hold you stronger every day. Amen

Reflection:

How are we reacting at times of darkness?

Do you still trust God in the times of darkness?
