Teachings Chosen

The subject of rest is very important in human lives. Because it is an emotional issue which affect our physical appearances as well. It is the longings of the weary one who have been running from pillar to post. Most at times, this is caused due to our carelessness or negligence in taking cognizance of important matters. When we are unrest, we make mistake in our decisions and also the works of the flesh receives strength to triumph the more. King Saul as an example.

Weary ones, it had been long since you wanted rest from all those labours that have been unproductive to you but it seems it can’t be done away with. Yours is not the first neither will it be the last. Through the scriptures we have learnt about the weary(unrest) ones in the affairs of life, their situations have been so unpalatable and how God came to their rescue.

Ruth as an example

We learnt that Ruth was unable to experience the desired rest in her husband’s house. How did I know?

Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?

Ruth 3:1

A godly home is a place of rest. This was the desire of her mother-in-law.

Now, rest is a desired thing in all affairs of life. Everyday souls are crying for rest. Many souls have been stressed being under one yoke or the other.

“Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.”

Psalm 12:5

Jesus Gives Rest

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Jesus has come to destroy the works of the devil. Jesus gave a call out to all who are heavy laden. That is, burdened with the yoke of sin or with the affairs of this life that has almost taken life out of them. In Jesus is our final unfailing rest. The call from Jesus is the answer to the question of the souls looking for rest. He is the ultimate giver, therapists can only prescribe they do not have the ultimate solution. Jesus Himself is the greatest physician. He wants to see us enjoying Him and not enduring Him.

Being heavy laden is beyond the control of mankind. No one wants to take challenges of life more than they can bear. But there are those who are passing through such a situation right now to such Jesus is calling ”come unto me”. To such God is saying ”in me is your rest”.

For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.”

Jeremiah 31:25

Our response should be that we believe God’s word and hold unto it in every situation we might be passing through. Being aware that our savior is faithful and true, we shall find that rest we long for. Weary souls say to yourself ”my rest is in God and no good thing will my loving savior withhold from me”.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Psalm 84:11
