Student Leaders and Decent Dressing
Decent dressing is one of the controversial subjects in many churches and denominations today. Indeed, the subject has created so many cracks and fractions in the body of Christ at large. Therefore, some Christian leader opined that the outward appearance is not what matter, but, some are of the pinion that the inward reflects the physical appearance and to others everything goes. Hence, in spite of all forms of differences on the subject matter, but, i will simply want us to search the Scripture and draw examples on how we as Christian student leaders should comport ourselves on the matters relating to our outfits.
Definitions
A leader is a person who leads a group of people, especially the head of a country, n organization, etc. A Christian student leader is therefore, called/selected by God to lead a group of students with and through Christ character. Decent- The word decent could be used when something is considered by most people to be normal, good and reasonable. Decent Dressing is the act of putting on clothing which is of godly standard and good quality.
Reason for Decent Dressing
However, when God visited them, and God provided Adam and Eve coats of skin rather than leaves/apron.
“Unto Adam also to his wife did the Lord make coats of shins, and clothed them”. Gen 3:21
Discussion– How should a Christian dress to reflect his/her identity to the world?
To designate function identification- Moses was instructed by God to design garments, aprons, ephods, turban and special clothes for the priest and the Levites. This was to differentiate them as regards their offices amidst the people. Similarly, King, nobles and soldiers were also identified in their regalia and uniform respectively. Today, there are different personnel with uniform in our society such as doctors, nurses, lawyer, military, paramilitary, etc. All these personnel wear uniform to designate their offices and for easy identification.
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”. Ephesians 6:13
Godly Mindset for Decent Dressing
Dress with a godly motive-never you dress to impress. Always dress with God in mind. Let your outfit reveals your root as a child of God and not one being engrossed in the world system. Always dress to reveal your nativity.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifices, and holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service”. Romans 12:1
Dress to gain God’s approval and not men’s approval. They will always commend to outward appearance but God is interested in both the inward and also the outward appearance. (2 Cor 7:1)
Always dress to set Godly standard. The Bible admonishes that we become models to people in our conduct and speech. Rather than conforming to the pattern of ungodly and indecent dressings. Dare to get godly standard for dressing wherever you find yourself. Always dress with a sense of modesty.
“Let your forbearance be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand”. Phil 4:5
Conclusion
What kinds of dress do you consider suitable? What on earth dictates your dressing? Who do you represent with your appearance? Always dress to reveal the beauty of God and your root as the child of the Most High. Your mode of dressing must be moderate.
