The Essence of Loyalty in Ministry

Why loyalty?

There are many reasons why loyalty is really important for any minister or any serious person who wants to really follow God and do his work. Loyalty is important because;

Loyalty is the principal qualification for every and any minister.
Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2

Most people in the ministry think it takes only experience and gifts to survive and do well. It is good that all these things are needed but the most important thing required in doing well in the ministry is loyalty. No one wants to work with unfaithful people who lie behind their back and are not committed to the same purpose of the ministry. Everyone prefers to be with people who will die and follow them in what they believe thus making Loyalty an essential part of the requirements of being a minister or being a ministry.

To fight the fifth column
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.   John 14:30

The fifth column includes the people who are within a group who don’t support the vision of the group. They are those that sell out info and secrets to people outside the group in an unconscious and conscious effort to destroy that group. We can call them ministerial spies. They make mockery in secret of what goes on within the ministry. They laugh and scoff at the leader’s ideas and instructions.

There’s a popular story of an army general who surrounded a large city with the aim of conquering it.  This city was heavily fortified with a high and imposing wall and gate.  The army general surrounded the city in readiness to attack.

One friend of the general came along and asked him, “Sir, how do you think you are going to overcome the defenses of this city?  No one in recent history has been able to conquer this great city.”

The army general smiled and said, “It’s my 5th column. I’m depending on them to do the trick.”

The general’s friend was very interested and asked, “What is this 5th column?  I thought you only had four columns.”

The army general replied, “I do have a 5th column.”

“Oh, I see.  Is it a special commando unit or are they airborne paratroopers?” the man asked.

The general laughed, “No, it’s none of these.  My 5th column consists of my spies, agents, friends and supporters who are already within the city.  You just wait.  They will open those big gates from within and my armies will rush in.”
Sadly, this is the tactic the devil uses most of the time to destroy very powerful and successful, ministries.
Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Proverbs 22:10

• For the love of God to fill the church/ministry.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psalm 23:2

It is important that sheep are led and drink from still waters. The presence of disloyalty in a ministry breeds strife and unrest which causes sheep to waver and hinders God’s love form flowing in the ministry.
Love is one of the few if not only cardinal signs that Jesus Christ gave to his disciples that will prove to all men that they indeed follow him. It is however important that anything that can hinder this great virtue has to be taken note of.

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John 13:35

To have a successful ministerial team.
Every good ministry rests on the shoulders of a good team of loyal people who are committed to the vision of the ministry. It is important that loyalty becomes an intricate part of the that ministry. There will be times when the leader might not be present for certain reasons, in those times Loyalty is required on the part of the members and next in command to be faithful to that vison and leader even in his absence.

The fruit of Christianity we are seeing today was because Jesus left the ministry to faithful men who committed it to faithful men who have committed it to us.
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

2 Timothy 2:2

To have a Mega ministry
Growth comes when there’s stability. Every ministry needs faithfulness to grow and become big. Without loyalty no ministry can get to its heights. For a ministry to be long-lasting and be able to impart the mass, loyalty of its members and leaders is very crucial.

To reap our full reward in heaven
Faithfulness will be rewarded in heaven. Imagine being rewarded for being faithful to the ministry god placed you in and having your name being mentioned in the whole of heaven for your reward. What a sight that will be!!!

‘And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.’
Revelations 21:14

Summary

Ministry cannot strive on only gifts and experiences. Loyalty is equally important. Loyalty should be sort after for a successful ministry.
