The Word of God is Potent
The word of God is very essential for Christian living. It has power to address our situations. It also gives us a great turn around. Even at the same time, it exposes our secret thoughts and bring them to light. This is very helpful to us because we are mortal man, so many bad things look good to us but in the light of God’s word we understand better. The sword is God’s word.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
To better understand this, let us dive into the story in the book of Judges
And Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly. 22 And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly; and the dung came out. 23 Then Ehud went out into the porch and closed the doors of the roof chamber behind him and locked them.
Judges 3:21-23
Case Study
In the book of Judges we learnt of Ehud, his sword and the result. We shall see Ehud as a type of Christ, the sword as God’s word and the result as the outcome of the work of His word.
Jesus Christ demonstrated a life of obedience to His Father as Ehud did. When God commissioned him as a deliverer of His people. Ehud did not drift from the plan of God but rather sought to fulfill it. As Christians, we must seek to do this in our daily lives, to please God and fulfill His purpose. In the same way as Ehud did.
God’s Word
Just as God’s word is the sword. It has the power to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Ehud’s sword on entering into the belly of Eglon and allowing it to stay there. It revealed what was inside king Eglon. The lesson here is the potency of God’s word. Because when we dwell on it till it become part of us, it reveals our dirtiness. Although king Eglon is a type of the flesh that had been continuously fed for a very long till it becomes fat. Which keeps troubling us from getting God best. The solution to such situation is God’s word, the sword.
Jesus didn’t promise an easy life in overcoming the flesh but He gives us the assurance of the victory He has received for us when He cried it is finished. No matter the tyranny of the enemy we are facing in the sword (God’s word) lies the solution. There is nowhere else to look.
The dung in our lives and even those we are not aware are there. Can only come out by the entrance of the sword. It is our responsibility that we allow the word of God to transform us by yielding to its instructions. Ehud did not leave until his work is accomplished. Consequently, Christ wil not leave us until His finished work is done in our lives. His desire is that He sees army of people purged from the blemish of this world and made fit for God’s kingdom.
Its Power
God’s word is tried and true one can depend totally on it. For guidance in the way of righteousness. Do not throw away the word in face of the trials of the world, the answer to them lies in that book called the Bible. Therefore get hold of it and consume it.
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
