Ungodliness
Titus 2:11-12, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.
The Meaning of Ungodliness
To be ungodly simply means to live in such a way that contradicts God’s nature. In other words, it’s to consciously live in disobedience to God’s precepts. I would also say that, ungodliness is to be irreverent towards God, that’s to totally disregard what he thinks of how we live.
The Bible talks about the flesh as those things that emanate from the flesh. The works of the flesh and the wordly passions all fall under the category of ungodliness.
Who Are The Ungodly Are?
There are two sets of people who can be classified as ungodly. They are:
- Those Who Have No Relationship With Jesus. These are those who are yet to get saved from their sins. They have no knowledge of Christ nor have any relationship with him.
- Those who have accepted Jesus but still compromise their faith whenever they feel it’s not convenient to live in obedience to God’s word.
Often times, I hear many believers say, common, it doesn’t matter, God will understand. The truth is, he won’t understand. Our salvation was delivered to us at an inestimable price. So a believer who still plays with sin is threading on very dangerous ground.
Romans 1:18 says, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
As a result, our walk with God should be progressive. Meaning that, after getting saved from our sins. The next phase is spiritual growth and maturity. Sadly, many of us still cling to our old sinful lifestyles. God’s warning is clear on this. 2 Peter 3:7 says, that the ungodly will face judgment.
The above scripture points to the fact that, of us who calls on the name of the Lord must depart from every form of ungodliness. It’s important to always remember that, Jesus didn’t save us so we’d remain and live just as we did before we gave our lives to him.
Psalm 1:1 says, Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
When we repented from our sins and accepted Jesus into our hearts. We received salvation and this, we musn”t toil with.
What God Says About the Ungodly
1 Peter 4:7, The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
Revelations 20:14–15 says, Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” Ultimately, those who reject God—the ungodly—will be separated from Him forever.
All things considered, it’s needful that we weigh ourselves critically. This will help us adjust where necessary. It’s a wise thing to do in order to avoid the terrible fate that awaits the ungodly. Dying in sin or missing the rapture is the worst fate anyone would ever suffer. Hence, I courage you to take a stand for Jesus today.
