Darkness

Very many are constantly chasing shadows and don’t realise that nothing outside of Jesus can bring satisfaction or lasting peace. A lot, indulge in their own darkness – sampling those things that will only lead to destruction.

Sadly, some would have been totally broken before they will finally realize that nothing would ever fill an empty life except Jesus Christ. Until we admit the fact, that nothing life offers will grant us peace and fulfillment except a restored relationship with God – we’ll keep wander aimlessly through a world of shadows and darkness.

This is to say that our dark cravings and indulgences can’t fill the needs of our souls. The truth is this, we we’re created to dwell God’s presence not in darkness. In him, we find life. Without him, there is only emptiness, darkness, fear, and death.

The Devil’s Ultimate Plan

Sin represents darkness and it often leads to shame and death. And shame leads to hiding . Although, we’ve been chasing shadows, God is calling us to return to his marvelous light. It’s the devil’s plan to keep us hiding away in darkness.

This is why he often tries to convince us that as long as no one knows of our gambling, sexual immoralities, alcoholism, drug addictions, etc, we’ll be just fine. His intention is to constantly keep us in pursuit of shadows. He does this craftily by simply taking advantage of our emotional wounds, our pleasures, pains, pride, and hurts. His goal is clearly to pull us away from the presence of God’s light. And eventually lure us into eternal darkness (hell).

God’s Word and His Promises

Losing ourselves in the pursuit of shadows. And hiding away in darkness from our guilts and shame, isn’t God’s will for us. Although, he’s always watching, listening, and recording all of our actions – he’s rather eager to forgive us of all our excesses.

God’s word is the light. And this amazing light exposes the darkest parts of our lives that we often prefer to keep hidden from others. Consequently, our dark actions are not as neatly hidden away from God like we really think.

Despite the fact that, we’ve tried to hide the mess in the darkest part of our lives – the light of God’s word has come will do a thorough cleaning out of those mess. Revelation 3:20 says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
If we let God into the darkness in our lives, the light of his word will clean out:

  • Our temptations and secret sins.
  • Our unholy habits and addictions.
  • Those faults that we prefer not to admit.
  • The selfish attitudes that we have nurtured.
  • Our evil desires and dark cravings.

Jesus: The Light of God

Jesus came into the world not to bring condemnation, but to bring salvation. Not to rub our noses in the dirt of our dark corners but to sweep them out. To bring reconciliation and healing. Christ is the genuine light that illuminates every darkness. Hence, he is whom we need to lighten our darkness.

Also, he is the light that guides us along life’s journey when we have more questions than answers. More so, Jesus is the light that dispels the darkness of our guilts with his forgiveness. John 1:5 says, The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

When God’s light shines on you and on all around you, it will bring: forgiveness, hope, love, healing, encouragement, strength, etc. This great news is that, this light is completely freely and will become yours if you let him into your darkness.

Lastly, in the light of God’s word, we find the strength to carry on. Through his light, the darkness in us is replaced with forgiveness, love and hope. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
In any way darkness has possessed your life, Jesus will illuminate that darkness if you believe.
