Unhealthy fears

Unhealthy fears are not healthy for believer. Fear is not alien to anyone. Be it babies, children, teenagers or adults, fear isn’t scared of anyone, except those who don’t fear it. God knows there is every tendency for man to entertain fear. So, He repeatedly charges him not to fear.
Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them (2 Kings 6:16, KJV).

The Meaning of Unhealthy Fear

An unhealthy fear is a response to an imagined danger that isn’t real. Admittedly, there is a fine line. Sometimes we may fear something when there is actually nothing to fear. While some fears are healthy, others could be harmful. For example, the fear that does not allow us to touch a live wire, or jump down from the fifteenth floor of a skyscraper is healthy.

Jack Canfield’s Opinion on Fear

Everything you want is on the other side of fear’. He when further with this: ‘The ability to overcome fear is what makes the difference between the successful and the failure’. Unhealthy fears are not part of our heritage in Christ. We must resist it. We must face whatever makes us afraid and overcome it through the name of Jesus.

Many times, what we fear doesn’t even exist; it only exists in our imaginations. The devil can and will take advantage of those things we’re afraid of to compound our confusion and make life very frustrating for us. Fear makes you have less faith in God and have more faith in the enemy.

The Situations Where Fear Thrives

Unhealthy fears thrive on two major things: ignorance and negative mindset. Fear cripples and takes one from somewhere to nowhere. Let me pause here to say this to you, don’t be afraid to face a new challenge. Take up the vision God has given to you. Fear must not make you sluggish or disoriented in life. 2 Timothy 1:7say, For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Most of the things we fear are actually more of shadows than realities. The Psalmist said though he walked through the valley of the shadow of death, he feared no evil. He was confident of this fact because he knew that God was with him. .

However, the fear that wants us to keep our egos safe at all costs, tells us to stay small, to believe that we can’t go higher, not to ask for too much, or tells us to ‘cut off’ those who dislike us or who don’t share our belief systems, is harmful.

Lastly, with Christ and the word of God in us, we should have nothing to fear. But without Christ and God’s word in you, you have a lot of reasons to fear. This is because you are not in agreement with God. Fear is a good signal that you are not moving in agreement with God.

When a man’s life is taken over by fear, he doesn’t do anything right. Neither can he travel far in the journey of destiny. So, pray for more confidence in God and yourself; and be productive. Feed your faith everyday with God’s word as doing so automatically starves your unbelief to death. I pray; the tree of fear in you shall wither to its root. In Jesus name!
